Industralight Project Prince of Wales Hospital

MEDICAL

Hospital lighting can be complex. Each area needs its own type of lighting to work properly. At Prince of Wales Hospital’s new $870 million building, we had to light many different spaces. Each one had its own rules to follow under Australian Standard AS/NZS 1680.2.5 for hospital lighting. The biggest challenge was lighting the walkway that connects the old hospital to the new 13-storey building. This bridge WHEN HERITAGE MEETS HIGH-TECH

helps patients, visitors and staff move between buildings safely. We also had to light reception areas, staff break rooms, offices, storage rooms and wet areas. Reception areas needed warm, welcoming light. Staff rooms needed bright task lighting for paperwork. Wet areas needed tough lights that could handle hospital cleaning chemicals. Every space was different but all the lights had to work together as one system.

LIGHTING CHALLENGES ACROSS HEALTHCARE ZONES

The Industralight team started by studying the building plans. And confirming what the Australian Standards required. We worked closely with electrical contractors to create LED lighting that would work perfectly in each hospital area. We picked three main types of lights for different jobs. Our Linear Suspension Series became the star of the walkway. These long, thin LED lights hang from the ceiling and create a clear path

of light. They guide people smoothly from the old building to the new one without any dark patches or confusing shadows. We used our XT-R Recessed LED Panels and Decor 26W LED Downlights in other areas like the offices, reception and waiting areas. These lights sit flush in the ceiling and give bright, even light that helps staff read documents and work on computers without eye strain.
