RESIDENTIAL
CREATING SAFE AND WELCOMING PATHWAYS AT SANCTUARY COVE’S WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT
Harbour One is the best example of waterfront living at Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast. This development by Mulpha has 38 luxury apartments and villas across two buildings. Bureau Proberts designed the $130+ million apartments. And Tomkins built the development over several years. Residents get access to a marina, two championship golf courses and a shopping area.
The electrical contractors needed exterior walkway lighting for the raised walkways between buildings. It would help residents and visitors move safely between the two while adding to the resort feel. However, the outdoor coastal location could prove challenging for lighting applications. The electrical contractors sought quality products that could handle the environment.
WALKWAY LIGHTING NEEDED TO MATCH THE DESIGN AND SURVIVE TOUGH COASTAL CONDITIONS
The architects at Bureau Proberts designed raised platforms to connect the apartment buildings. The central walk between would be surrounded by greenery. And their design included striplighting running along the full length. The recessed strip would create a soft, smooth illumination through the complex. The lighting needed to give a warm, soft flow that felt luxurious without creating glare. The outdoor conditions also brought up issues around technical problems. Coastal environments need a highly rated fixture to combat corrosive salt spray. Salt air and moisture can quickly damage standard lighting systems. On top of that, the pathways needed exact lengths to fit the
design perfectly. This project needed specific lengths and configurations. The electrical contractors needed luminaires that could be custom-made to exact measurements. They also needed a lighting partner who understood coastal installations. What’s more, the development team wanted energy-saving solutions that would cut ongoing costs. The apartment complex was designed using solar power in communal areas. Energy-efficient lighting was installed to minimise power costs. And landscapers planted native and hardy species to reduce irrigation requirements.
